About Us

About The Community Hub

The Community Hub (TCH) is a new, one-stop portal for Byron Shire locals to connect to all things community. TCH is much more than a business directory – providing information, what’s on, learning opportunities, and supporting local business, for example, with our Be a Local Tourist campaign.

We have created 6 easy-to-access sectors for the Byron Shire community:

  • Connect – community activities to connect with others
  • Support – provides an overview of organisations that support individuals
  • Learn – courses, programs, institutions as well as our own, Let’s Talk series of informed conversations
  • Business – a local businesses directory
  • Volunteer – for people wanting to volunteer or donate, here are the places that need your assistance
  • What’s on – an overview of upcoming entertainment and events in the Shire, including all markets to keep our community plugged in

Our vision

What is community? What does it mean for you? Community connects and supports individual members, it provides a platform where people can access vital and useful information. Community unites people to inspire them for the better good of others. We believe that community is now more important than ever before.

Being a valuable part of a community doesn’t just happen. It needs to be nurtured.

Our aim is to facilitate a more inclusive, resilient and connected Byron and beyond community.

What can The Community Hub do for you?

Our target audience is all community members, that is local residents of Byron Shire and surrounds. We are not targeting tourists or visitors to the region as there are ample websites for them.

As well as our website users, we are also targeting local businesses. Small business is a vital part of our community. Byron Shire has a reputation for its unique entrepreneurial spirit and a vibrant, dynamic business community. The Hub is passionate about supporting local businesses so they can thrive and grow, provide jobs and income for local residents which in turn, encourages new startups.

We will keep our community informed and inspired with feature stories and videos about new businesses, local heros and special offerings for locals only. We want to make it easy for residents to stay informed and plugged into our community.

For example, on our homepage you will find, the Be a Local Tourist campaign. For businesses who have visitors and tourists as a market, one of the most effective ways to generate positive word-of-mouth (and social media posts) is having local people recommend you. We can all relate to family and friends asking us for places to stay, eat and things to do locally. Be a Local Tourist is a place where businesses can offer their unsold, perishable inventory to locals only. It is a win-win-win for businesses, residents and visitors.

TCH is a unique concept. There is no other one-stop website built for our residents. We have so many incredible local people, businesses and initiatives to support and connect people but it is often difficult to keep up-to-date with all this information. TCH aims to include everyone who wants to be included.

Why are our rates so low?

Reasonable membership fees were always in our vision. We want to include all sectors of the community. We are committed to support our community and we believe that financial limitations should not be a reason to be excluded from a listing on our website. FYI are you aware that Google favours directories so your listing with TCH will be included in Google searches – an extra bonus for your business for a small monthly fee.

We think you will love The Community Hub and hope it will become your first port of call for all things community.
